Team Leader, Strategic Information Services
This role is primarily responsible for leading a team of information professionals in the creation, maintenance and distribution of strategically important analysis, reports and information. This is achieved through a variety of channels including the development of Web based self-service reports or direct delivery to enable data literate stakeholders to conduct their own analysis and reporting. This role contributes to the success of the university by ensuring that accurate information is provided at the right level of detail and interactivity in a timely manner. This information facilitates improved decision making at all levels of the university through data driven decision making.
Management of a team of professional IT staff and IT applications through:
Project management: gathering, analysis and documentation of business requirements, the identification of appropriate data sources, business, and transformation rules. This includes conducting workshops with a variety of business stakeholders, including executive sponsors, end-users and technical developers, to discuss, determine and present business requirements, prototypes and strategies
Ensuring that the provision and interpretation of information is appropriate for corporate use, including the review of data management tasks to ensure the integrity and semantic consistency of Business Intelligence solutions.
The collection, verification and reporting of information used for compliance reporting as required by various government departments.
Providing advice, training and assistance to a wide variety of University staff on Business Intelligence tools and solutions, and the interpretation of information.
Maintaining specialist knowledge and connection to the Higher Education sector and the Business Intelligence profession to ensure that advice and solutions represent best practice and technology.
Lead the development and improvement of stable, repeatable processes throughout all information delivery mechanisms.
Lead and promote compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and procedures, including equity and health & safety and exhibit good practice in relation to same.
Lead and promote fair, ethical and professional work practices in accordance with the University Code of Conduct.
Completion of postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and / or equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training and experience.
Experience in sourcing, interpreting and presenting quantitative and qualitative data to inform organisational planning, policy development and performance review, including a working knowledge of data warehouse and reporting tools.
Demonstrated use of BI tools including SQL in the collection, validation, analysis, interpretation and communication of complex datasets.
Excellent relationship management and communication skills with experience in negotiating and problem-solving with people from all levels of the organisation.
Demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills in groups at all levels.
Proven personal characteristics including flexibility, initiative/motivation, and strong team and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated success in leading teams of professional IT staff, and in managing IT applications. Demonstrated experience in delivering high quality outcomes through managing people, multi-disciplinary teams and projects. Desirable:
Knowledge of the current issues and opportunities in Higher education and how their impact would affect information gathering, analysis and reporting requirements at Griffith.
Knowledge of Cognos reporting, analytical and presentation tools, BI practices and concepts, data analysis, data quality practices, and dimensional modelling. Experience in the Higher Education sector.
