Senior Data Science Analyst

Senior Data Science Analyst

Job Description

Do you have the passion to analyze data to uncover patterns, build predictive models, and impact the business materially through what you observe? Do you want to make an impact in Amazons multi-billion dollar Affiliate business, and its Advertising business? We are looking for a talented Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to enhance a comprehensive business and operational reporting/analytics function, develop models to help publisher monetization, and drive new ways to measure and simulate the performance of our current business features and drive innovation to build business cases for new features and products.

The Advertising team in Amazon has the charter of marketing our products to drive traffic to and increase sales. We are also responsible for increasing the monetization of Publishers by having non-Amazon ads on their sites, much like AdSense and more. We have rich data on customer purchase patterns across all of and its subsidiaries. While we have established a vast network of Publishers that drive billions of dollars in sales to Amazon, we also advertise for other companies using highly targetable, non-Personally Identifiable Information and keep a portion of the money from the advertiser as our fee. Using our targetable segments, we come up with intelligent advertising campaigns that would maximize the benefit to Amazon, Advertisers and Publishers. We do this by calculating the probability of a user making a purchase because of an advertisement, the cost of showing that advertisement, and make a data based decision on what advertisement is best to surface.

APNs BI team gathers all the data needed for publisher analytics and develop an analytics suite that will help publishers, customers, developers and internal business users. We want to provide Publishers access to end customer traffic patterns, monetization of different ad units on their sites, customer interaction with the ads shown etc. Using this data, we want to generate insights on what kinds of products would monetize well for our publishers. We want to provide internal users an insight into various types of publishers, the campaigns they are part of, and their site performance. These insights will be used for identifying opportunities to grow the business and also identify non performing areas, including publisher fraud detection. We want to measure the impact of proposed new features and products via simulations. This is intended to help our development teams prioritize new features using hard data and metrics. The Analytics platform uses cutting edge technologies such as Hadoop, Amazon's EC2 and s3 cloud services.

Your major responsibilities will be to:

  • Analyze and extract relevant information from large amounts data from various sources including (but not limited to) Amazon's historical business, crawled content from Publishers site, web analytics data on our external portal and website logs.
